Film Grain

Texture added to digital footage to mimic the look of film.

Film grain is the fine texture of photochemical film, often added subtly to digital video to soften its clinical sharpness and feel more cinematic. Used in moderation it adds warmth and organic feel; overdone it looks noisy. It is a finishing touch in grading.
