Slip Edit

A slip edit shifts the in and out points of a clip together, so a different range of its source media plays while the clip stays in the same spot and keeps the same length. Picture sliding the film inside a fixed window: the window does not move, but you see an earlier or later portion of the take. Nothing else on the timeline shifts. Editors slip a clip when the framing is right but the moment is slightly off, such as catching a reaction a beat earlier or syncing a gesture to the cut. It needs unused media (handles) on both sides to slip in either direction. Slip is a precise timing tool that leaves surrounding cuts and overall pacing completely undisturbed.
