Slide Edit

A slide edit keeps a clip's own in and out points unchanged but moves its position along the timeline, while the adjacent clips on either side trim to absorb the move. Slide it later and the preceding clip extends while the following clip shortens; slide it earlier and the reverse happens. Total sequence length stays constant. Editors use slide to reposition a cutaway or insert shot relative to the surrounding action, for example nudging a B-roll shot to land precisely on a spoken word, without changing what the cutaway itself shows. Because the neighbors must give and take frames, both need handles. Slide pairs naturally with slip: slip changes content in place, slide changes placement with content fixed.
