Razor Tool

The razor (or blade) tool splits a clip at the clicked frame into two independent clips that share the same media but can now be trimmed, moved, or deleted separately. It adds an edit point without deleting anything. Editors use the razor to isolate a section for a different treatment, such as a speed change or color tweak on just part of a shot, to chop out a segment before ripple deleting it, or to break a long clip into edit-ready pieces. Many editors prefer the keyboard equivalent (often Cmd/Ctrl+K) to blade at the playhead for frame accuracy, and a modifier usually blades across all tracks at once. Overusing the razor can clutter a timeline with fragments, so it pairs best with trimming for clean results.
