Video Editing Glossary

Montage

A sequence of short shots edited to condense time, space or information.

Montage has two meanings. In the broad film-theory sense it simply means editing — the assembly of shots to create meaning. In common usage it refers to a sequence that compresses a process or passage of time into a fast, often music-driven series of shots, like a training or travel montage. Both rely on the idea that meaning emerges from the juxtaposition of images.
