Match Cut

A cut between two shots linked by matching composition, motion, shape or subject.

A match cut joins two shots that share a strong visual or thematic similarity — a shape, a movement, a graphic element — so the transition feels intentional and satisfying. It can be a graphic match (matching forms) or a match on action (matching movement). Match cuts are a powerful way to connect ideas or compress time elegantly.
