Video Editing Glossary

Dynamic Range

The range of brightness a camera or image can capture, shadow to highlight.

Dynamic range is how much detail exists between the darkest and brightest parts of an image. High dynamic range preserves detail in both shadows and bright skies; low dynamic range clips them. Log and RAW formats capture more of it for grading.
