Video Editing Glossary

Dissolve

A transition where one shot gradually blends into the next.

A dissolve (or cross dissolve) overlaps the end of one shot with the start of the next, blending them. It traditionally suggests a passage of time or a soft connection between shots. Like all visible transitions it should be used with intent, not as a default.
