Chroma Subsampling

Compressing color detail (e.g. 4:2:0) to save data while keeping brightness.

Chroma subsampling reduces color resolution relative to brightness because the eye is less sensitive to color detail. Notations like 4:2:0, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 describe how much color is kept. More color sampling helps keying and grading; less saves file size.
