Action Safe

The action-safe area is the larger of the two safe-zone guides, sitting just inside the frame edge. Important visual action, logos, and anything that must not be clipped should remain within it, since some displays overscan and some platforms crop the outermost edges. It is more permissive than the title-safe zone, which is reserved for text. Editors use action-safe to make sure key subjects, score bugs, or graphic elements are not pushed so close to the edge that they get trimmed on certain TVs or players. Like title-safe, it is shown as a toggled overlay on the program monitor. While modern flat-panel displays overscan far less than old CRTs, action-safe remains a sensible habit for broadcast deliverables and any content destined for unpredictable playback environments.
