How to Edit GoPro Footage: An Action-Cam Workflow

Action-cam clips are raw, wide, and relentless — here is how to turn a memory card of GoPro chaos into a tight, watchable edit.

GoPro footage is some of the most exciting raw material you can put on a timeline and some of the most punishing to edit. The ultra-wide lens distorts, the auto-exposure swings, the audio is buried under wind, and a single ride or run can generate gigabytes of near-identical clips. The skill of action-cam editing is selection and restraint: finding the three seconds that matter inside three minutes of motion, correcting the lens and color so the world looks right, and pacing cuts to the energy of the activity.
