How to Edit a Time-Lapse: From Frames to Final Cut

A great time-lapse compresses hours into seconds without ever looking like a slideshow — here is the full post workflow.

A time-lapse turns the slow, invisible motion of the world — clouds, crowds, sunsets, construction — into something you can feel in seconds. But the magic only works if the post-production is clean. Flicker, jitter, harsh exposure jumps, and the wrong frame rate can take a stunning capture and make it look like a buggy slideshow. Whether you shot a sequence of RAW stills or a recorded video clip, and whether the camera was locked off or moving as a hyperlapse, the editing principles are the same: assemble cleanly, deflicker, stabilize, control the speed, and grade for consistency. This guide walks the entire process from image sequence to final export.

Back up and organize your frames or clips
