How to Set Up Ableton Live (Beginner's Guide)

Get Ableton talking to your interface and MIDI keyboard, dial in the buffer, and the Session and Arrangement views are ready for you to make music.

Ableton Live is one of the most popular DAWs for producing and performing electronic music, prized for its dual Session and Arrangement views and its fast, hands-on workflow. But like any DAW, it makes no sound until it is correctly pointed at your audio interface and MIDI gear, and the buffer size set so it records and plays without lag. Setting it up means installing and authorising the software, choosing your audio device, configuring MIDI, and tuning the latency. Install and Authorise

Start by downloading the version of Ableton Live for your operating system and the edition you have, then run the installer.
