The feel and rhythmic pocket of music that makes it move and flow.
Groove is the elusive but instantly recognisable sense of rhythmic feel that makes music flow and makes people want to move to it. It comes from the interplay of the rhythmic parts — especially drums and bass locking together — and from the subtle timing nuances of how notes are placed slightly ahead of, behind or right on the beat. A track can be technically correct yet feel stiff and lifeless, or it can have an irresistible groove; the difference lies in feel rather than in any single note. Developing groove is about internalising the pulse and playing with relaxed, consistent timing, and it is widely considered the soul of rhythmic music.
