Analog versus digital is one of the oldest debates in synthesis, and it is wrapped in a lot of mythology. Analog synths generate sound with electronic circuits and voltage; digital synths create or process sound with computer chips and code. Both can sound fantastic, and the gap between them has narrowed enormously, but they still differ in character, features, cost and workflow. For a beginner the question is less about purity and more about how you like to work and what sounds you want. This comparison lays out the honest trade-offs.
